The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, says all committee decisions ought to be finalised through voting.

His remarks follow the recent chaos that erupted during a recent ministerial vetting, which resulted in broken tables and damaged equipment, forcing the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to set up an investigative committee to probe the matter.

Speaking before the investigative committee, Mr Dafeamekpor explained that voting on decisions will help prevent confusion and ensure clarity.

He argued that once a decision is agreed upon, it should be put to a vote, making it the collective decision of the committee rather than that of an individual.

“This is our protocol,” he said. “But it seems we don’t enforce it quickly enough.”

He pointed out that had the committee voted on vetting seven to eight individuals on Thursday and Friday, the decision would have been clear and transparent and would have prevented the chaos.

The votes would have made the committee’s position unmistakable, leaving no room for misunderstanding.

Mr Dafeamekpor stressed the importance of enforcing voting protocols swiftly to ensure decisions are made collectively.

By doing so, Parliament could prevent similar disruptions in the future and maintain order during crucial proceedings, he concluded.
