The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has embarked on a series of high-level engagements with key public and private institutions in the region.

His familiarisation tour is aimed at deepening collaboration, addressing development challenges, and strengthening institutional capacities in line with the government’s broader transformation agenda.

Among the institutions visited were the Ghana Institute of Engineering (Branch 6), the Ghana AIDS Commission, Volta Star Radio, and several prominent media agencies, including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Information Services Department (ISD), and the Daily Graphic.

The Minister also interacted with representatives from the Volta regional leadership of the Musicians’ Union of Ghana and other private sector groups.

As part of his commitment to media development in the region, the Minister donated laptop computers to four key media houses. He described the gesture as a “modest way of supporting the hardworking men and women in the media who continue to do so much with so little.”

“I am fully aware of the many challenges our media professionals face. By equipping them with the right tools, we can help amplify the developmental agenda of government,” Mr Gunu noted.

He emphasised the vital role of the media in projecting the Volta Region’s economic potential, attracting investment, creating employment, and boosting local industries.

“We cannot leave the media behind. I appeal to all media professionals to help tell the Volta Region’s story to Ghana, Africa, and the world. Government alone cannot do it , we need strong partnerships,” he added.

During a visit to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s (GBC) Volta Star Radio, the Minister, who once served as a GBC stringer, reiterated his connection to journalism and assured the station’s management of continued support. He donated an additional laptop to the station to aid their operations and pledged to address ongoing logistical challenges.

On the technical development front, Mr. Gunu hosted a delegation from the Ghana Institute of Engineering, led by Prof. Charles Atombo. The meeting reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to supporting regional infrastructure growth through engineering excellence.

“Strengthening local engineering capacity, particularly at the district level, is vital for delivering sustainable infrastructure and achieving inclusive growth,” he stated, expressing appreciation for the Institute’s ongoing contribution to nation-building.

The Minister also welcomed a delegation from the Ghana AIDS Commission, led by Dr Prosper Akanbong, ahead of their Joint HIV Monitoring Mission (JISM). Discussions centred on identifying key gaps in Ghana’s HIV response at the regional and national levels.

Mr. Gunu used the opportunity to express gratitude to development partners and global donors for their continued support, aligning the efforts with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.

“We will continue to collaborate across sectors to improve healthcare delivery, promote innovation, and ensure the holistic development of the Volta Region,” he affirmed.

These engagements, the Minister emphasised, reflect his unwavering resolve to drive inclusive development, enhance institutional efficiency, and promote public-private cooperation in the Volta Region.
