The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has called for deep national reflection and responsibility in honour of the eight souls who perished in the recent helicopter crash.
Speaking during a solemn vigil organised by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and led by the Volta Regional Minister in Ho, Mr. Agbavitor paid tribute to the victims, including two government ministers whose sudden passing has left the nation in mourning.
In his address, Mr. Agbavitor highlighted the urgent need for conscientiousness in national service, condemning irresponsible actions—particularly in sectors like mining—that endanger lives and degrade the environment.
“We cannot allow our land to be destroyed at the cost of human lives. If you have a conscience, if you ever think of doing anything good for this country, if you have children and still choose irresponsible mining, it is a shame. For many, their land is their highest pride—it is their life,” he declared.
“With such brilliance in our midst, why has this not been a turning point? Why does the cycle never end?” he asked, urging leaders and citizens alike to match talent with action for the country’s progress.
The vigil, which drew mourners from across the region, was marked by candlelight processions, prayers, and musical tributes in remembrance of the victims.
The event underscored the shared grief of the Volta Region and the nation while also serving as a call to protect the values, resources, and lives that define Ghana’s future.
