Volta education directorate hails StarOil Chairman for transforming education through smart lab initiative

The Volta Regional Directorate of Education has lauded the Chairman of StarOil Limited, Torgbui Xornametor I (Mr Vincent Kwamitse Kaledzi), for his extraordinary contribution to education through the establishment of a state-of-the-art Smart Lab at Bleamezado in the Volta Region.

The Regional Director, Francis Agbemadi, made the commendation during the closing ceremony of the Ho West Tech Festival for ICT teachers, describing the project as a “transformative legacy of love, innovation, and vision.”

The Smart Lab, built in memory of the late Dr Leonard Yao Kaledzi, brother of Torgbui Xornametor I, is the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Centre of Excellence in the Volta and Oti Regions. The ₵1.5 million facility is already redefining digital learning and innovation among young people and educators.

“We are deeply inspired by the vision and generosity of Torgbui Xornametor I. His investment in education through technology is a timeless tribute to his late brother and a gift to generations yet unborn,” Mr Agbemadi said.

“This gesture by StarOil should inspire other corporate institutions to emulate their example and invest in education. When businesses partner with schools, we build not just classrooms, but futures,” he stated.

Mr Agbemadi further noted that the facility positions the Volta Region as a growing hub for digital innovation, aligning with national efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.

He commended the leadership of StarOil for proving that corporate social responsibility can spark real community transformation, especially when directed towards education and youth development.

“The future belongs to regions that invest in innovation. With this Smart Lab, Volta and Oti are taking bold steps into that future,” he added.

The Regional Director also called on other organisations to support similar digital initiatives in schools across the region to ensure that no child is left behind in Ghana’s technological revolution.
