The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has expressed concern about the chaotic scenes recorded during the parliamentary vetting proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025, describing the atmosphere as unsafe and overwhelming.
Testifying before the Special Committee investigating the disruptions, Madam Rita revealed that she felt vulnerable amid the tensions and avoided moving from her seat due to the overcrowded room.
“I felt very unsafe but had to remain calm in my seat. With the number of people in the hall, if there was any danger, where would you escape? I didn’t even know what was happening outside, so I stayed put,” she stated.
The MP stressed the need for stricter controls on the number of attendees during vetting sessions to maintain order and security.
“I am happy that the rules governing the vetting process will now be enforced because the influx of visitors is unacceptable,” she noted.
“Some guests of appointees even joined in the arguments, moving around the table, which should not happen” she lamented.
She called for a review of procedures to enhance security and prevent future disruptions.
“If we can regulate movement and limit the number of people allowed in, it would be in everyone’s best interest. I truly felt unsafe,” she reiterated.
