The 2023 Coalition of Unpaid Teachers and Arrears has called on the government to clear outstanding salary payments for over 1,000 teachers by the end of January 2026, warning that failure to do so will prompt industrial and legal action.
In a press release dated January 5, 2025, and signed by the coalition’s secretary, Nana Yaw Yeboah, the group expressed frustration over working for two years without pay, despite repeated attempts to negotiate with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“Efforts have been made to come to terms with the Ministry of Education and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, but have been proven futile,” the statement read.
The coalition described the situation as “disheartening,” emphasising that the salary delays have caused severe hardship for teachers and affected their ability to provide for their families.
The group has urged both the Ministry of Education and GES to take urgent action to resolve the matter, noting that unresolved payments could lead to formal industrial action and court cases.
“We would not hesitate to undertake industrial and legal actions if we do not receive positive feedback by the end of January 2026,” the release warned.
