In a stunning twist at the University of Ghana Corporate Football League semi-finals on Friday, 4 July 2025, both group winners were knocked out as second-placed sides Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Union Ghana booked their spots in the final.

The evening delivered high-stakes drama and tactical brilliance, reminding everyone why football remains the most unpredictable of sports.

The first semi-final saw GCAA, runners-up in Group A, deliver a tactical masterclass to defeat group winners Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club 1–0. Entering the match as underdogs, GCAA pressed high from the start, disrupted the military side’s rhythm, and neutralised their physical dominance.

The Armed Forces, who had impressed throughout the group stage with their structure and strength, were outmanoeuvred by a GCAA side that had clearly done its homework. Prince Kofi Ameyaw’s well-taken goal was the reward for a disciplined performance that saw GCAA reach their first-ever final — a landmark moment in their corporate football journey.

In the second semi-final, Union Ghana produced a similarly inspired display to edge past Group B leaders National Petroleum Authority (NPA) 1–0, completing a remarkable night of upsets.

Union came into the match with a point to prove following their disappointing group-stage loss to the Armed Forces, which cost them top spot in Group A. But adversity only seemed to sharpen their focus.

Emmanuel Arthur struck the winner in the second half, capitalising on the attacking creativity that has defined Union’s campaign. Winger Newton Tackie was a constant menace on the flanks, stretching NPA’s defence and delivering the assist that sealed victory. Union’s backline held firm under late pressure, preserving the clean sheet and earning a shot at redemption in the final.

The stage is now set for a thrilling finale as Union Ghana face Ghana Civil Aviation Authority in the 2025 UG Corporate Football League final — a clash between two teams who defied the odds and proved that belief can overcome reputation.

The third-place play-off will feature the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club and the National Petroleum Authority, both looking to salvage pride after semi-final setbacks. Both matches will be played on Friday, 25 July 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The UG Corporate Football League is organised by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate in partnership with RITE Sports Services, with support from Glico General Insurance, Viggo Energy, Socaloca, and the Ghana Football Association.
