UG 2005 MPhil Economics alumni donate digital equipment to modernise graduate lecture halls

The 2005 MPhil Economics Alumni Year Group has donated two state-of-the-art Desktop Digital Podium Q-NEX NDP500 systems to the Department of Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon. The gesture, valued at tens of thousands of Ghana cedis, is aimed at modernising the Department’s graduate lecture halls and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

The donation was formally presented by Dr Francis White Loloh, a senior economist at the Bank of Ghana, on behalf of his colleagues. He was supported by Mr Mark Badu Aboagye, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking during the brief ceremony, Dr Loloh urged other alumni year groups to emulate the example of the 2005 class by contributing to the upgrading of facilities at the Department. He emphasised that alumni support was critical in complementing the university’s efforts to provide modern teaching tools and resources to students.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Department, the Head of Department of Economics, Prof. Edward Nketiah-Ampnsah, expressed profound appreciation to the alumni for what he described as a pioneering and historic gesture. He noted that the 2005 MPhil Economics class had become the first alumni year group to donate to the Department, setting a precedent for others to follow.

“This donation is a significant boost to our efforts to enhance graduate students’ experience, and it aligns seamlessly with the Vice-Chancellor’s agenda to modernise classrooms,” Prof. Nketiah-Ampnsah said. He assured the alumni that their support would make a lasting impact on the quality of education and resources available to graduate students.
