The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has taken a significant step toward its much-anticipated 2026 Public Lecture Series by inaugurating a 10-member Organizing Committee.

The inauguration ceremony was held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the university’s Council Chamber.

The committee, chaired by Professor Mavis Amo-Mensah of the School of Communication and Media Studies, has been tasked with leading the planning and coordination of the lecture, which is expected to surpass the success of previous editions.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor of UEW emphasized the importance of the Public Lecture Series in fostering academic discourse and addressing pressing national and global issues. He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a high-impact event in 2026.

To ensure smooth execution, the Organizing Committee will operate through five subcommittees:

  • Publicity, chaired by Dr. Bismark Odum-Sackey
  • Sponsorship and Fundraising, chaired by Ms. Barbara Amoako Kissi
  • Protocol, chaired by Dr. Shirley Dankwa
  • Hospitality, chaired by Mr. Israel E. Fugar
  • Publication and Editorial, chaired by Mr. Jerry Anyan

Other members of the main committee include Professor Richardson Addai-Mununkum, Professor Benjamin Ghansah, and Mr. Francis Mawuli Amorni, who serves as the accounts representative. Ms. Magdalene Nyarko will serve as Secretary.

Present at the inauguration were several members of Management, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Esther Danso-Wiredu; the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah; the Principal of CODEL-UEW, Professor Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, the Deputy Finance Officer, Mr. Charles Edem Bedra; and the Ag. Librarian, Ms. Agatha Gifty Larson.

This initiative follows the highly successful 2025 edition of the UEW Public Lecture Series, held in April, which featured renowned Kenyan Pan-Africanist Professor P. L. O. Lumumba as the keynote speaker. That event drew significant attention and was widely praised for its thought-provoking content and inclusive participation.

The upcoming 2026 lecture is expected to build on that momentum, with plans for enhanced stakeholder engagement and expanded national and international reach.

“The Public Lecture series remains a cornerstone of UEW’s mission to inspire critical thinking and public dialogue,” the Vice-Chancellor stated. “You have the full support of the Vice-Chancellor and Management. We believe the 2026 edition will not only meet but exceed expectations.”

The University of Education, Winneba, continues to position itself as a hub for intellectual engagement and transformative education in Ghana and beyond.
