A Computer Science student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus, has been sentenced to death by the Tamale High Court for the murder of his fellow student, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu.
The incident occurred in September last year and was linked to a romantic relationship dispute.
Salifu Nurudeen’s girlfriend, also a UDS student, had ended their relationship and started dating the victim.
On September 25, Wumpini’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds. This was after his phone was also reported missing.
Investigations by the police cybercrime unit led to Nurudeen’s location, where the victim’s phone was found hidden under the suspect’s bed.
Further evidence showed that Nurudeen had sent messages from Wumpini’s phone.
One message pretended to break up with the girlfriend, while another was sent to a friend of the victim.
Nurudeen was arrested after being lured to Jubilee Park. He admitted to sending the text messages, but denied committing the murder.
After examining the evidence, the Tamale High Court found Nurudeen guilty of murder and sentenced him to death.
