UBA Read Africa Initiative reaches Western Region

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana, through its UBA Foundation Read Africa Initiative, has expanded its literacy drive to the Western Region of Ghana for the first time, donating a collection of African literature books to students at Ahantaman Girls’ Senior High School in Takoradi.

The donation, made in commemoration of International Book Giving Day, also coincided with Valentine’s Day underscores UBA’s commitment to fostering a reading culture among young people and equipping them with knowledge to shape their future.

Speaking at the presentation, Corporate Communications Officer Linda Segbefia, representing UBA Ghana, emphasized the bank’s dedication to education,

“At UBA, we believe education is the foundation for a brighter future. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire students to develop a lifelong love for reading and learning.”

The event was met with enthusiasm from both students and staff. Jerry Otchere, Business Manager at UBA Takoradi Business Office, expressed his excitement over the warm reception of the initiative. “The students’ enthusiasm has been remarkable.

“We are thrilled to bring Read Africa to Takoradi, ensuring more students benefit from this part of the Country. Beyond reading, I also encourage students to cultivate a habit of saving, as financial literacy is equally important,” he added.

Madam Ernestina Kamkam, Headmistress of Ahantaman Girls’ SHS, lauded UBA Ghana for the gesture, describing the books as a valuable addition to the school’s learning resources.

“This donation will significantly enrich our students’ academic journey. We deeply appreciate UBA’s support in promoting literacy and excellence,” she noted.

Students at the school welcomed the initiative with excitement, acknowledging the books as a resource to expand their vocabulary and knowledge.

The Head Girl pledged to champion a reading culture among her peers, ensuring the books are put to good use.

UBA Ghana remains committed to empowering communities through education, reaffirming its role in shaping the future of young Africans through literacy and learning.
