The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has named two Legacy Girls College candidates, Suleman Huda Suglo, the Overall Best Prize Winner and Paula Adzo Elinam Sowu, the Overall Second Best Prize Winner in Africa, for the 2025 WASSCE.

The two Legacy candidates received the International Excellence Awards at the opening ceremony of WAEC 74th Annual Council Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp.

The Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang, who opened the 5-day WAEC Annual Council Meeting, expressed delight that the three Overall Best Candidates for 2025 WASSCE were all females and Ghanaians.

All five member countries of the Council (Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone), subscribed to WASSCE and participated in the School Candidates diet for 2025, which recorded a total entry of 2,612,830 candidates.

Speaking at the sidelines of the awards presentation, the Founder of Legacy Girls College, Dr. Mrs. Ellen Hagan said, “Examinations may set the benchmark—but they do not define the full measure of excellence.”

“At Legacy Girls’ College, we believe true distinction lies in the ability to think deeply, act purposefully, and lead with confidence beyond the classroom”.

“This is why this moment matters. Being named Overall Best Candidate in Africa at the WASSCE International Excellence Awards is not just a celebration of academic brilliance—it is a validation of a broader vision of education. One that nurtures discipline, curiosity, courage, and character in equal measure”, she added.

She continued that Huda and Paula’s achievement reflects what is possible when high expectations meet the right environment—where excellence is not accidental, but intentional.

The Head of School, Grace Edziyie, said the school remains committed to raising young women who will not only excel in examinations but also shape industries, influence societies, and lead with purpose across the continent and beyond.
