Tullow Ghana and its partners have announced the restart of drilling operations in the Jubilee Field, marking a renewed phase of investment and confidence in Ghana’s energy future.
The new two-year drilling programme begins this May and is expected to significantly boost oil production and improve operational efficiency at one of West Africa’s most strategic oil fields.
This campaign follows the successful completion of Tullow’s previous four-year drilling programme in December 2024, which delivered 18 new wells—six months ahead of schedule and under budget. That project was praised for its efficiency, strong safety performance, and disciplined cost control.
The new drilling phase will be rolled out in stages, starting in May 2025, with additional activity planned for November and continuing into 2026. Tullow aims to build on past achievements and further elevate its drilling management standards.
Tullow Ghana Managing Director, Jean-Médard Madama, described the development as a significant milestone.
“This is an exciting moment for us. The restart of drilling reflects another milestone in our journey in Ghana and shows our confidence in the country’s resource base,” he said. “Even as the field matures, we are confident in its capacity to deliver value—for our shareholders, partners, and the people of Ghana.”
Though the Jubilee Field has entered a mature production phase, it remains a vital source of oil and revenue. The new campaign is expected to unlock further value for stakeholders and ensure sustained output.
In preparation for the new drilling operations, Tullow recently completed a 16-day maintenance activity at the Jubilee Field to upgrade systems and reduce risks.
