Three persons who allegedly defrauded a scrap dealer of GH¢250,000 were on Friday put before an Accra Circuit Court.
Akwasi Boateng, 42, Eugene Ofosu, 40, and Richard Adomako, all businessmen, are alleged to have collected the amount under the pretext of selling to the victim five excavators as scrap.
Imoro Alhassan, the complainant, later found out that the excavators did not belong to the accused persons.
The three have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, to wit, defrauding by false pretences and defrauding by false pretences.
Akwasi Boateng, who was present in court, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Eugene Ofosu was absent, while Richard Adomako was at large, the court heard.
The court has admitted Boateng to bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 with two sureties, who must justify the bail with title documents in their names.
Prosecution was ordered to file its disclosures. It issued a bench warrant against Ofosu and Adomako.
The prosecution’s case was that the complainant, Imoro Alhassan, is a resident of Twifo Praso. Boateng, Ofosu and Adomako are all businessmen.
In October 2025, Ofosu approached the complainant that his boss, Adomako, had five excavators, which he was selling as scrap.
Prosecution said the complainant expressed interest in buying the excavators, and Ofosu then sent him to Anyinam in the Easter Region to inspect the “supposed excavators.”
The complainant bargained with Ofosu, and they agreed on GH¢70,000 each for the excavators, bringing the total to GH¢350,000.
Ofosu told the complainant that payment would be made in Accra, and on October 3, 2025, Ofosu led the complainant to Afrikiko, where they met Boateng.
The complainant made a part payment of GH¢150,000 to Boateng for the excavators.
On October 7, Boateng and Ofosu met the complainant again at the Osu Cemetery, where he paid GH¢100,000 to Boateng.
On October 8, the complainant went to Anyinam to start cutting the excavators but was prevented from doing so by the security man in the yard.
It was disclosed that the excavators did not belong to Boateng and Adomako, who had collected the GH¢250,000 and went into hiding.
On October 10, Alhassan made a report to the police and on October 24, Ofosu was arrested at Twifo Praso.
He admitted having lured the complainant into buying the excavators in his cautioned statement.
On November 14, Boateng was arrested from his hideout at Kwabenya in Accra, and he also admitted having collected GH¢250,000 from the complainant.
