The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly possessing and manufacturing locally made pistols in Shiashi, a suburb of Accra.
The suspects have been identified as Patrick Gyimah, 24, a dispatch rider from Bawaleshie; Emmanuel Osei Yeboah, 27, an electrical welder from Adenta Commando; and Charles Somuah, 29, a private security guard from Ogbojo.

According to the police, the arrests followed a routine patrol on August 7, 2025, when officers spotted Gyimah in a secluded area under suspicious circumstances. A search on him revealed a locally manufactured pistol hidden in his pocket.
Investigations revealed that Gyimah had purchased the weapon from Yeboah and Somuah at East Legon for GH₵2,000, paying GH₵800 upfront with an agreement to settle the balance once documentation for the gun was provided.

On August 8, 2025, Gyimah led police to the homes of the other two suspects, where Yeboah was found in possession of two additional locally made pistols, a toy pistol, one BB 12-bore cartridge, and a jackknife. Yeboah allegedly admitted to fabricating the firearms and selling one to Gyimah.
All three suspects have been charged with manufacturing guns without authority, possession of firearms without authority, and abetment to manufacturing guns without authority, offences under the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD 9). They pleaded not guilty when arraigned and were remanded into custody to reappear in court on August 22, 2025.

The Regional Police Commander has cautioned the public against engaging in the manufacture, sale, or possession of illegal firearms, warning that such acts attract severe legal consequences. He further urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station to help maintain peace and security.
