Though your wings were clipped too soon, your spirit soars - GAF pays tribute to Manaen Twum Ampadu

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has paid tribute to the late Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, describing him as “a brilliant and promising young officer whose light was extinguished far too soon” in the tragic helicopter crash of Wednesday, 6 August.

During the solemn State burial of the eight fallen heroes at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) delivered a heartfelt tribute to Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu.

“We stand together in sorrow and solemn pride to honour the life of Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu. Though his time with us was brief, his impact was profound, a testament to his intelligence, dedication, and unwavering commitment to service. Though your wings were clipped too soon, your spirit soars among the skies you loved,” they said.

The Armed Forces recalled his exceptional journey through service:

“Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu was commissioned into the Ghana Armed Forces as part of Regular Career Course Intake 61, after successfully graduating from the Royal Air Force Training Academy from 9 September 2020 to 8 April 2021. From the moment he was commissioned into the Operations Branch of the Ghana Air Force, it was evident that Flying Officer Ampadu was destined for greatness. A top performer in his class, he combined sharp intellect with relentless determination, quickly earning respect as a skilled aviator and dependable co-pilot,” they recounted.

His colleagues remembered a man whose abilities were matched only by his humanity:

“His thirst for knowledge was unmatched, and his technical expertise set him apart even among seasoned officers. Yet, beyond his professional excellence, he was a beacon of comradeship, a loyal friend, a willing mentor, and a source of encouragement to his peers. His humility, warmth, infectious smile, and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on all who served alongside him.”

To his family, and especially his wife, Lt (GN) Ewurajoa Kumi-Kyeremeh, the GAF extended heartfelt condolences:

“We offer our deepest condolences and eternal gratitude. Your son, brother, husband, and comrade was a hero in every sense, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. His potential was boundless, and though his journey was cut short, his legacy will endure in the annals of the Ghana Air Force.”

They concluded with words that blended deep sorrow with enduring pride:

“Rest easy, young warrior. Though your wings were clipped too soon, your spirit soars among the skies you loved. ‘The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long, but oh, how it illuminates the world.’ Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, fair winds and clear skies ahead. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, the Ghana Air Force salutes you. May your soul rest in perfect peace till we meet again.”
