Deputy Spokesperson for Dr Bawumia’s campaign, Dr Ekua Amoakoh, has criticised what she describes as a calculated attempt by some party members to blame former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia alone for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election defeat.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, October 17, Dr Amoakoh said it was “quite unfortunate” that some aspirants within the NPP were pushing a narrative that unfairly singles out Dr Bawumia for the party’s loss.

“I saw this making the rounds a couple of days ago and I think it’s quite unfortunate that the campaign is going down this line,” she said. “It seems to me that the other aspirants, mostly, if it’s not to blame His Excellency Dr Bawumia for the election defeat on the back of a government they were all part of.”

Dr Amoakoh argued that those criticising the former Vice President would have been the first to take credit if the NPP had won the election.

“I’m sure if we had won the 2024 election, every one of these aspirants would have come out to mention their contribution and how they helped us win. But now that we have lost, there seems to be a very deliberate attempt to put everything on Dr Bawumia,” she stated.

She added that the attacks only prove that Dr Bawumia remains the dominant figure within the NPP and continues to command strong grassroots support.

“To me, I have always maintained that this action just shows that he is the one to beat. It’s still him — and they are all aware that the spirit of the NPP is still solidly behind him,” she said.
“So what do they have left to do? There’s a lack of messaging, and all they have left is to constantly attack the things he’s done and his persona. But to pick this to attack, I was quite surprised.”

Dr Amoakoh also referenced Dr Bawumia’s calm and statesmanlike conduct during the aftermath of the 2024 elections, saying it was in the nation’s best interest.

“We were all here and we saw the reaction from Ghanaians when Dr Bawumia decided to put the peace of the nation ahead of whatever might have happened on election day,” she said.
“So from that to now, to try to spin it into something negative is quite funny for me because it’s not even sinking.”

She said that while the campaign season has seen heightened internal criticism, Dr Bawumia remains focused on his message of unity and progress for the NPP.
