There are no slaves or royals in the NPP; we are together as one for a common goal – Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who habitually look down on other members because of their background or religious affiliation to desist from such conduct, warning that it damages the party’s image and makes it unattractive.

Addressing party members in Wa during his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Dr. Bawumia described as unfortunate recent comments suggesting that the NPP is divided between “slaves” and “royals,” insisting that the party is a community of equals, regardless of origin.

“There are no slaves and there are no royals in this party. We are all together as one. Nobody is higher than anybody else. We are all one,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“So all those people in our party making tribal and bigoted statements should stop, because their comments are not ruining Dr. Bawumia; they are ruining the image of the party.”

Dr. Bawumia urged members across the country to reject such divisive rhetoric and unite behind the party’s common purpose.

“We don’t need tribalism in our party. Let us all understand that we stand and serve on an equal basis. Nobody has any special entitlement simply because they come from one part of the country.”

“We need unity in our party. We don’t need people dividing us on the basis of tribe or religion. These are alien to us. Let us all come together.”

The former Vice President reaffirmed his commitment to engaging all party members with respect and fostering unity as the party prepares for the future.

“I want to assure all of you that I know we need unity, and I am very committed to it. This is why, when I campaign, I don’t insult anybody. I don’t talk down to anyone. I speak with respect and deference to my opponents because I know that after the election, we will all have to come together and work hard for the party.”
