The Livingstone Foundation, Unichem Ghana offer free breast cancer screening

The Livingstone Foundation (TLF), in partnership with Unichem Ghana Limited, held a free breast cancer screening on Thursday, 16th October 2025, at the African University of Communication and Business (AUCB) campus in Adabraka.

The exercise formed part of TLF’s mission to create lasting social impact through health, education and development initiatives, and also contributed to activities marking the 10th edition of Stonebwoy’s annual BHIM Festival.

Students, staff and members of the Adabraka community turned up in large numbers to undergo professional screening and receive vital education on breast health. Participants were taught breast self-examination techniques and given information on early detection, prevention and available treatment options.

The event also created a lively atmosphere filled with games, karaoke, Q&A sessions and dance performances by the Accra Boys group. These activities kept participants engaged while easing anxiety about screening and encouraging open discussions on women’s health.

Speaking at the event, Dr Louisa Satekla-Ansong, Dental Surgeon, Public Health Practitioner and Director of The Livingstone Foundation, stressed the importance of regular screening as a key step in the fight against breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, but it can be effectively treated when detected early. This exercise is part of our mission to empower communities, particularly women, with knowledge and access to essential healthcare,” she said.

She urged women to prioritise routine health checks and expressed gratitude to partners and sponsors for their support.

President of AUCB, Professor Isaac Abeiku Blankson, commended The Livingstone Foundation and Unichem Ghana for their collaboration.

“This collaboration reflects the kind of community-focused values we champion at AUCB. Health education is vital, and we are proud to be part of an event that not only saves lives but also educates and uplifts our students and neighbours,” he said.

Many participants described the screening as enlightening and reassuring. Some said the exercise helped them overcome their fear of breast checks, while others appreciated the convenience of having the screening brought to their doorstep.

The event was supported by AUCB, Nestlé Milo, Ghandour Cosmetics, Chickenman Pizzaman, Donerbite Ghana, Belpak Tissues, Verna Mineral Water, Bigoo Drink, Burniton Music Group and BHIM Festival. Their contributions, which included refreshments, product donations, and logistical support, helped make the exercise both impactful and enjoyable.

The Livingstone Foundation, founded by international musician Stonebwoy, aims to improve the quality of life for Ghanaians through education, youth empowerment, healthcare and disability advocacy. The foundation provides educational resources, skills development and support for underserved communities to promote inclusive access to opportunities for all.
