The November international break has been busy with exciting fixtures in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2024 European Championships.
However, despite the interesting results some of these games have churned out, football fans might not see some of their favourite young football stars back on the field anytime soon simply because they are injured.
While others might miss only a few days of football action, others are likely to be out for a long time.
Gavi
First on the list is the Barcelona and Spain youngster who has been in an impressive form all season for club and country.
The player started Spain’s 2024 European Championships qualifier game against Georgia on Sunday but could not complete the game as he had to be helped off the field while in tears after picking up a ‘serious’ knee injury.
Early tests by the national team suggest the 18-year-old might have picked up an ACL injury and is likely to be out for a long time.
“In the dressing room, it feels like we lost. We’re destroyed, Gavi’s injury is serious and it’s hard moment for all of us” Spain manager, De La Fuente told the press.
Vinicius Jr
The Real Madrid forward was substituted early in the first half of Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia after suffering a muscle injury.
The forward is expected to be out for at least two months with his return date slated for next year February at the latest.
The 23-year-old is reportedly back in Spain and has begun treatment.
Eduardo Camavinga
There was relief among Real Madrid fans after initial reports had suggested the midfielder was fine despite receiving a knock in France’s training ahead of their Euro qualifiers.
However, further tests have now confirmed that the player has picked up a knee injury and is expected to be out for about 8-10 weeks.
This means fans of the 19-year-old star will have to wait till next year January to see him back on the field.
Warren Zaire-Emery
At 17 years and 255 days old, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder became the youngest debutant for France’s men’s national team in their game against Gibraltar on Sunday.
He went on to score the third goal in the 14-0 historic victory but picked up an ankle injury in the process which will see him miss out on football for the rest of year.
“It’s still a significant injury that will certainly take several weeks (to heal),” Deschamps told French television show Téléfoot on Sunday
Erling Haaland
The 23-year-old Manchester City forward has been confirmed to have picked up a slight ankle injury during Norway’s EURO 2024 qualifier game against Faroe Island.
He was subsequently left out of the squad for the next game against Scotland which ended in a 3-3 thriller.
However, according to Norway as reported by Sky Sports, although the player is in much pain the injury is not serious and might be available for Manchester City’s next games when club football resumes.
Andre Onana
Finally, is Manchester United’s goalkeeper who was substituted in the 81st minute in Cameroon’s World Cup qualifier against Mauritius on Sunday.
Although the extent of injury is unknown, early reports indicate the 27-year-old picked up a shoulder injury and is expected back in Manchester for further tests to be carried out.
The November international break is expected to conclude on Tuesday, November 21 with a number of fixtures, including Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Comoros, expected to take place.
