About a thousand residents of Teshie have poured on the streets, demonstrating over the bad nature of their inner roads.
The residents are demanding that government fix the roads immediately.
The demonstration, dubbed ‘M33ba Teshie’ (Why Teshie), started from Adjorman Roundabout and is expected to end at Teshie-Maame.
Some of the notable roads which they say are in bad state include Teshie Estate road, Zongo-Junction road, Adom to Grader Estate road, Kuala Street, Agbleza road, Maate Tsulu road among others.
According to the Assembly Member for Teshie-Nungua Estate South, Tahiru Alhassan, several attempts to get the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly to fix the road have proven futile.
“We raised the matter at assembly meetings several times, but the MCE doesn’t care. We know the Assembly doesn’t construct roads, but at least they can fix the feder roads for us,” he said.
Another Assembly Member for Teshie-Nungua Estate North, Linda Dag also noted that, “the last time we spoke to the MCE about the roads, he just told us to go to court.”
She continued that, “the roads are affecting our businesses and our productivity. If you pick taxi for a distance that you have to pay 10cedis, you end up paying 40 or 50cedis.”
Meanwhile some of the inscriptions on the placards displayed by the demonstrators read, ‘Our Roads Look Like Galamsey Site’, ‘Potholes Endangering Our Lives’, ‘Mr. MCE, What Are You Doing About Our Roads’, ‘Bad Roads’, ‘Our Sidechicks Don’t Visit Us Anymore’, among others.
