The Ghana Highway Authority, on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has announced a temporary traffic management plan to accommodate ongoing construction works on the Accra–Tema Motorway and its extensions.

According to a press statement issued by the Authority, the arrangement is required to facilitate T-beam launching works for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge (N1), a key infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow.

Under the new traffic management scheme, lanes on the N4 Northbound Carriageway, running from Accra to Madina, will be temporarily closed to allow construction activities to proceed.

At the same time, the Southbound Carriageway, which currently has four lanes travelling from Madina to Accra, will be reconfigured into two lanes in each direction. This is intended to maintain traffic flow between Accra and Madina in both directions during the construction period.

The temporary arrangement will take effect on Monday, 9 March 2026, and is expected to last for approximately four months.

The lane reduction, according to the Authority, is necessary to create a safe working environment for construction personnel while ensuring the continued safety of motorists using the route.
