The Association of Ghana Startups (AGS), in partnership with AFOS Foundation and WERise Network through the DigiVibe project, has officially launched the TechServe Employability Programme, a national initiative aimed at recruiting and deploying women in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) careers across Ghana.

The programme was launched as part of the second phase of the successful AGS–National Service Secretariat (NSS) Startup Employment Support Program, which deployed National Service personnel to startups and strengthened workforce capacity across Ghana’s growing startup and innovation ecosystems from 2023 to 2025.

The TechServe Employability Programme specifically focuses on bridging the gender gap in the technology sector by creating structured opportunities for female ICT graduates to gain practical experience while supporting startups with the talent they need to scale.

Speaking at the launch, Solomon Adjei, President of AGS, emphasised the importance of empowering women in the digital economy:

“Ghana has thousands of talented female ICT graduates who are eager to contribute to innovation and economic growth. At the same time, startups and SMEs struggle to access skilled technical talent. TechServe bridges this gap by connecting women in tech with high-growth businesses where they can gain practical experience while driving innovation.”

Addressing the Gender Gap in Tech

Despite the rapid growth of the digital economy, women remain underrepresented in tech careers. The TechServe programme aims to change this by creating Ghana’s largest pool of female tech talent for startups and innovative companies.

The programme will recruit female National Service personnel with backgrounds in fields such as computer science, IT, software engineering, data science, and related disciplines, deploying them in startups and SMEs as interns to gain practical experience.

Programme Structure and Benefits

Participants in the TechServe Employability Programme will benefit from structured recruitment and placement into startups, mentorship and career coaching through startup skills bootcamps, continuous capacity building via the DigiVibe digital learning portal, performance monitoring, and industry exposure to equip young women for success.

Participating startups will gain access to highly motivated female ICT talent, reducing hiring costs while supporting product development, innovation, and operational scaling across their businesses.

In its initial phase, the TechServe Employability Program aims to recruit at least 300 female ICT National Service graduates, engage 100 startups across Ghana, partner with a minimum of five universities, and mobilize 50 industry mentors.

AGS will collaborate with institutions such as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Accra Technical University, and other selected universities to facilitate the recruitment of female ICT graduates.

Call for Collaboration

The Association of Ghana Startups is inviting corporate organisations, development partners, universities, and ecosystem stakeholders to support the initiative through sponsorship, mentorship, training, publicity, and leadership support for Student Startup Clubs.

The TechServe Employability Program.e represents a major step toward building a more inclusive and innovation-driven digital economy in Ghana.

The Association of Ghana Startups (AGS) is the national umbrella body representing Ghana’s startup ecosystem. The organisation works to support startups through capacity building, access to finance, policy advocacy, and international market access.
