Tamale Circuit Court hands down 5-Year prison sentences to 7 convicts from Bole

The Tamale Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Livingstone Lartey Yao Ameevor, has sentenced seven notorious individuals from Bole to five years in prison each for their involvement in causing unlawful damages to properties in Sawla, Bole, in the Savannah Region of Ghana.

They are Mohammed Abudu aka Akura,  Alhaji Malik,  Alex Abdulai Ibrahim, Saaka Shaibu aka Awelo, Muniru Mahama, Seidu Kipo aka Fire and Alhassan Borrison aka Ankarama

The seven convicts were arraigned before the court on two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and causing unlawful damage to houses, farms, warehouses, and vehicles.

They were found guilty of going on a rampage and burning properties belonging to other citizens with whom they had issues.

Despite a strong plea for mitigation from their lawyer, Asoro Napari Esq, the presiding judge emphasized the need for severe punishment to deter like-minded individuals.

The judge stated that the law would become ineffective if lawbreakers were not severely sanctioned.

Each convict was sentenced to a fine of 800 penalty units (being GHS9,600) or five years in prison if they default.

The convicts have also been ordered to reconstruct or reinstate the damaged properties within three months.

The court’s decision aims to serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar activities, highlighting the seriousness with which the judiciary is treating such offenses.
