SUTESCO Appeals To Alumni For Support

Introducing the Free Senior High Education Policy has led to a significant increase in student enrollment, from 800,000 in 2017 to 1.4 million, over 600,000 in public schools in Ghana.

The increment accounted for the infrastructure deficit in some public senior high schools, hence the adoption of the double-track system to accommodate all qualified students.

The Headmistress of Suhum Technical Senior High School (SUTESCO) Elizabeth Agyarkwa has called on all stakeholders in education particularly school alumni to play their role in supporting the infrastructure development of their alma mater to reduce overdependence on the government.

Madam Elizabeth Agyarkwa granted the media an interview when the 1994-year group of the school celebrated its 30th anniversary.

The Headmistress noted that the pressing issue currently is furniture inadequacy hence support in that regard to augment government efforts will help address the many challenges facing senior high schools.

The 1994-year group as part of the 30th-anniversary celebration, donated furniture and some essential learning materials to brilliant but needy students. The group also presented awards to students and some staff.

The President of the 1994 year group of Suhum SUTESCO, John Benjamin Dorgbetor, expressed deep concerns about the infrastructure deficit in most senior high schools calling on the next government to review the Free SHS policy to enhance it.

He however appealed to old students of the various senior high schools abroad and in Ghana to reach out to their alma maters with the needed support.
