The Sunyani West MP, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, has donated a Nissan Navara pickup and two motorbikes to the Bono Regional Police Command to boost efforts in combating crime in the region.

The items were presented by the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, to the police at a brief ceremony held at the regional police headquarters in Sunyani.

The donation comes in response to growing concerns over recent robberies on major roads, particularly within the Sunyani West Constituency. These incidents have triggered fear among commuters and residents.

Margaret Afriyie, a nurse and frequent road user, shared her apprehension.

“When I heard of the robbery attacks last month on the Nsoatre–Berekum road and other places, I was scared to travel after 7 pm.”

She expressed hope that increased police presence, aided by the new logistics, would deter criminal activity.

Millicent Yeboah Amankwah explained that the recent surge in robberies had deeply troubled her.

“As a mother of the constituency, the recent robberies have given me sleepless nights,” she said.

“The complaints and agitations of the people affected me, especially knowing how the police lacked the logistics to ensure safety.”

She disclosed that after consulting with the police command and the Regional Minister, who chairs the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), she resolved to support the police with the vehicles.

“I donated the pickup and motorbikes to support both the regional and constituency-level police units to enhance their fight against crime.”

She stressed that development cannot thrive in the absence of peace and called on all citizens to support the police. She also encouraged the public to report criminal activity to help improve security.

Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa, who handed over the keys to Bono Regional Police Commander DCOP Yao Dougbue Tettehgah, revealed REGSEC’s plan to erect police posts in areas with poor mobile network coverage along major roads.

This measure, alongside increased patrols, aims to curb the growing spate of highway robberies.

“The Bono Region is not known for such crimes, and REGSEC will not allow the situation to escalate,” the Minister assured.

He praised the MP’s intervention as a timely support that will strengthen security across Sunyani West and adjoining areas.

Receiving the items, DCOP Tettehgah expressed gratitude to the MP for fulfilling her promise.

“This is not going to be anyone’s private vehicle for personal use,” he assured. “The vehicle and motorbikes will be deployed to hotspots known for robbery and other criminal activities.”

He reaffirmed the command’s readiness to ensure safety on roads and in communities throughout the region.
