Sylvester Tetteh

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro constituency, Sylvester Tetteh has asked members of the governing party to desist from attacking the person of the Special Prosecutor over the prosecution of former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng is only delivering on the mandate of his office.

In his view, the Special Prosecutor has been given a job by the President and must be allowed to deliver.

Addressing the controversies that have greeted the work of the OSP in relation to the Cecilia Dapaah case on JoyNews’ Newfile programme on Saturday, October 14, the lawmaker asked his party members to offer whatever support they have to the embattled former minister rather than attacking the OSP.

“He [Special Prosecutor] has been given a job to do, and so those who are insulting him should stop. If you are NPP, the president has given him a job and he must deliver on that.”

“So, I think the best they can do is pray and support Cecilia Dapaah in any way they can because even if Kissi Agyebeng is no longer the OSP, the office must work and the legislation that set it up will still exist.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Thursday, October 12, petitioned the Chief Justice to remove Justice Edward Twum from Cecilia Dapaah’s case.

In a Facebook post, the OSP explained that the judge appears to be prejudiced against the institution.

The Office, therefore, requested Gertrude Torkornoo to have him recuse himself or remove him from all its cases pending before him.

It added it will not appear in court to prosecute the case until the judge is changed.

“Consequently, as it stands, the OSP would not and cannot be reasonably expected to be parties to proceedings before the said judge,” the social media post said.

Ruffled by this, some members of the governing New Patriotic Party have taken to social media to expressed their displeasure about the turn of events.

But the lawmaker wants his party men and women to desist from such conduct which in his view does not help in strengthening the anti-corruption agency.
