Energy Minister John Jinapor has been criticised by the Minority in Parliament following remarks he made regarding his efforts in addressing the country’s power sector.
The opposition lawmakers have accused him of prioritising media headlines over resolving the persistent challenges bedevilling the sector.

Speaking at a workshop organised by the Energy Committee of Parliament, Mr Jinapor disclosed that the country has limited reserves of liquid fuel to power its thermal plants.
However, members of the Minority argue that such public pronouncements risk inciting public panic and could send negative signals to investors and the broader business community.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Monday, 19th May, Ranking Member on the Energy Committee, George Kwame Aboagye, voiced serious concern over the Minister’s approach. He also outlined several issues the Minority claims to have observed within the energy sector.
Mr Aboagye urged the Minister to shift his focus from what he described as “media theatrics” and instead prioritise the urgent task of stabilising Ghana’s struggling energy sector.
This latest exchange underscores mounting tensions between the Energy Minister and the Minority, as the country continues to contend with intermittent power outages and escalating operational costs within the power generation sub-sector.
