Ghanaian blogger and humanitarian, Kobby Kyei, has revealed that a piece of advice from award-winning Afro-dancehall artiste Stonebwoy changed his outlook on blogging and strengthened his resolve to focus on impact rather than chasing trends.
Speaking on The Career Trail programme with Irene Adubea Aning on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, Kobby Kyei recalled a private moment with the dancehall star after an interview.
According to him, Stonebwoy acknowledged his work but urged him to be patient with the results.
“Stonebwoy told me, ‘Kobby, I follow you, I see the amazing things you’re doing. But your path is generational. You might not get the benefits now, but always have it at the back of your mind: the world is watching you,” he recounted.
That statement, he said, sank deep into his spirit.
“He told me, if you base your mission on the fact that people don’t gravitate towards your content, you might hurt your soul and your spirit one day. That hit me so hard,” he added.
He continued that experience has since proven the advice true.
“Even now that I have the numbers, I see the truth of Stonebwoy’s words. The people who really help me, most of them don’t even comment. Some don’t even follow me. But they’re the ones who bring me gigs, connect me to diplomats, and even invite me to the UN or Paris for collaborations. Imagine, I’m not even a sports blogger, but I was invited to the Olympic Games in Paris. Why? Because the world is watching,” he said.
For Kobby Kyei, Stonebwoy’s words have become a guiding principle.
“I now understand Stonebwoy’s concept. The people who will help you, the people whose lives your work will impact, may never comment on your posts. But the world is watching you. And I am deeply grateful to Stonebwoy for sharing these words with me.”
