StarOil launches national community projects, commissions AI smart lab in Bleamezado

Energy giant StarOil Ghana Limited has unveiled plans for major community development projects across Ghana, targeting education, technology, healthcare, clean water, and youth empowerment. The initiative forms part of the company’s long-term commitment to national growth and corporate social responsibility.

The announcement was made during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) Smart Lab at Bleamezado in the Anloga Municipality of the Volta Region—the first of its kind in the Volta and Oti Regions. The facility aims to equip students and young people with digital and AI skills for the modern economy.

Chairman Urges Youth to Embrace Technology

Chairman of StarOil, Torgbui Xornametor I (known in private life as Mr Vincent Kwamitse Kaledzi), urged Ghanaian youth to embrace technology and innovation as tools for empowerment rather than distraction.

“Our young people must see technology as a tool for change, not a distraction. The world is evolving fast, and Artificial Intelligence is shaping the future of work. This facility is to help them acquire the right knowledge and direction,” he said.

He revealed that the AI Smart Lab was built in memory of his late brother, Dr Leonard Yao Kaledzi, who established the first basic school in Bleamezado. The project, he noted, continues his brother’s legacy of promoting education and empowering future generations.

Torgbui Xornametor I added that StarOil’s development projects—from health centres to clean water systems and youth initiatives—reflect the company’s broader vision to uplift deprived communities.

“We are committed to giving back to society. This is just the beginning; StarOil will continue to invest in people, because real progress begins with empowered citizens,” he emphasised.

CEO Reaffirms Focus on AI and Innovation

StarOil CEO, Mr Philip Kwame Tieku, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in education and innovation.

“The youth are the future leaders, and they must be well equipped with the skills and knowledge to shape that future,” he said.

He emphasised that Artificial Intelligence is transforming economies worldwide, and Ghana must adapt swiftly to remain competitive.

“The pace of change in Artificial Intelligence is revolutionary. We believe Ghana’s education system must catch up with this global shift. Through initiatives like this, we are helping to bridge that gap,” Mr Tieku stated.

He further announced that the Bleamezado lab is just the beginning, with plans to establish similar AI Smart Labs in all districts nationwide.

“StarOil currently operates over 250 stations across Ghana, but our greatest investment is in people. We are committed to creating similar learning facilities in every district to expose students to technology and innovation,” he added.

Education Officials Applaud Initiative

The Volta Regional Director of Education, Mr Francis Agbemadi, commended StarOil and its partners, Coral Reef Innovation Africa, for their foresight and contribution to digital learning.

“This project will greatly improve access to digital skills and prepare our students for the modern world. I urge the youth to take advantage of it and study hard,” he said.

A Brighter Future for Bleamezado

For the people of Bleamezado in the Anloga Municipality, the commissioning of the AI Smart Lab marks a new chapter—bringing access to digital tools, skills, and opportunities that can transform their community.

As StarOil continues its nationwide rollout of similar projects, communities across Ghana are being positioned to take part in the country’s digital and socio-economic transformation.
