Star Oil has unveiled a new initiative that allows commercial drivers to buy fuel on credit using their Ghanacard and an individualised credit scoring system, offering much-needed financial relief to thousands of drivers across the country.
The concept, dubbed Fuel Now, Pay Later, was announced in a Facebook post by Star Oil, following weeks of anticipation among its customers.
According to the post, the system works by combining a driver’s verified Ghanacard with their credit rating to determine how much fuel they can purchase on credit.
“Once a driver downloads the myCredit Score app, registers, and verifies their account with their Ghanacard, they can begin buying fuel on credit at selected Star Oil outlets and pay later via mobile money,” the post explained.
The scheme relies on the individual’s credit rating, which determines the credit limit available for fuel purchases.
The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play.
The launch builds on Ghana’s broader push for individualised credit ratings, a system introduced last year by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to enable products and services to offer credit based on verified creditworthiness.
Drivers and customers can look forward to seeing the rollout at selected Star Oil stations in the coming weeks, with the company encouraging others in the oil marketing sector to adopt similar credit-enabled solutions.
