Standard Chartered Bank has extended its Mentors Den program beyond Accra, reaching students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with invaluable insights on career excellence.

The mentorship session focused on three key areas; Financial Literacy, Employability and Entrepreneurship, equipping students with the skills needed to navigate life beyond school.

Transitioning from university into the workforce can be overwhelming and Standard Chartered recognises the importance of preparing students not just academically but practically. Many students are already juggling internships and side jobs, making financial literacy essential.

During the session, volunteers shared practical tips on managing finances, instilling habits that will serve them well into the future. The students were enlightened on investing and some of the investment options available for them to venture into.

On employability, students were encouraged to take ownership of their personal and professional growth. Beyond academic excellence, acquiring additional skills through short courses, certifications and self-development initiatives was emphasised as a way to stand out in the job market.

For those with entrepreneurial ambitions, the message was clear: “Don’t sleep on your business idea. Develop it, refine it and seek collaboration where needed”, said one of the Bank’s employees. Students were urged to explore business courses to better understand scaling and management, ensuring the sustainability of their ventures. Students were also encouraged to network so they build genuine relationships that could open their avenues to more people
