Staff of DBG give back to communities

Staff of the Development Bank Ghana (DBG) marked the end of 2025 by extending support to various institutions through a series of impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The activities formed part of the Bank’s long-standing culture of giving back to communities, especially during the festive season, while reaffirming its commitment to social impact and sustainable development across Ghana.

Over the past three years, staff of the Bank have consistently come together to pool resources for various initiatives, including supporting underprivileged families and individuals, as well as driving environmental sustainability efforts. These interventions have addressed critical needs in education, health and social welfare, bringing relief to beneficiaries while fostering a strong spirit of unity among staff.

In a coordinated effort to maximise impact, staff were organised into three groups — Team D, Team B and Team G — each comprising 25 personnel.

The first group, Team D, focused on promoting education and inclusion by supporting schools that cater for diverse learning needs. The team donated to the Awoshie Islamic Community School, Odorgonnor Basic School, Akropong School for the Blind, and the Demonstration School for the Deaf in Mampong-Akuapem.

The support provided included 50 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning kits, 200 sanitary pads for girls, and over 300 educational materials such as pencils, pens and exercise books. In addition, the team spent time with the pupils, sharing a festive meal and engaging them in recreational activities.

Team B, on the other hand, supported new mothers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital whose joy of childbirth had been overshadowed by financial challenges. Although medically fit for discharge, some families remained at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to unpaid medical bills.

In a show of compassion, the team settled the medical bills for 20 mothers and their babies, and presented 60 hampers to other mothers, helping to ease their burden and restore hope during the festive season.

Team G also extended its outreach to the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra, where medical bills for over 20 mothers and babies were fully settled. In addition, the team presented essential food and medicinal items to support more than 100 families receiving care at the facility.

Commenting on the initiatives, the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at DBG, Barbara Anawonu Wricketts, commended staff for their voluntary contributions and hands-on involvement, describing the initiatives as a true demonstration of the Bank’s values and its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development across Ghana.

“Their voluntary contributions and active involvement demonstrate our collective commitment to sustainable and inclusive development, and to making a meaningful difference in the lives of communities across the country,” she said.

Development Bank Ghana is a wholesale financial institution established by the Government of Ghana. Since its inception four years ago, DBG has facilitated significant disbursements through Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs), unlocking projects and value chains to empower businesses across agribusiness, manufacturing, ICT and high-value services.

The Bank remains dedicated to bridging the MSME financing gap by ensuring that Ghanaian businesses gain access to long-term, competitively priced capital, fostering resilience, innovation and sustainable growth. DBG has received funding support from the World Bank, European Investment Bank, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), and the African Development Bank.
