St Joseph College of Education solicits equipment, infrastructure support

The management of St. Joseph College of Education (JOSCO) is appealing to authorities for support in addressing the infrastructure and equipment challenges facing the tertiary institution.

According to Dr. Isaac Godfred Antwi, Principal of the college, four major projects have stalled at various stages of completion. These include the administration block, an eight-unit staff accommodation facility, a female hall of residence, and a three-storey, 300-bed capacity hostel.

He noted that the female dormitory, in particular, is overcrowded, and completing the stalled projects would not only ease congestion but also enable the college to increase its intake of female student-teachers.

In an interview with JoyNews, Dr. Antwi revealed that management has been able to bring the contractor working on the administration block back on site, but progress has been very slow.

“Portions of our road network remain untarred and during the dry season, the dust that emanates from it poses a health risk to both staff and students on campus, notwithstanding the inconveniences associated with mud during the rainy season,” he added.

Dr Isaac Antwi stressed that the school lacks a befitting bus to convey students during field trips and other co-curricular activities, and is thereby appealing to the Minister of Education and other agencies to donate a bus to the college.

He is also appealing to the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, and the Tano South MCE, Kwame Frimpong to urgently fix the road network of the college.

“I am also appealing to the government through GETFund to release funds for the continuation and early completion of all the abandoned projects,” the Principal emphasised.

From Internally Generated Fund(1GF), Dr Isaac Antwi stated, management have undertaken initiatives, including the extension and provision of modern equipment at the college clinic laboratory

He said the management, with support from the alumni, is constructing a modern entrance for the college, though certain aspect of the project requires external support for its total completion.

“In pursuance of the Information Technology Integration policy, the college has purchased and installed four (4) additional smart boards, bringing the total number in our lecture halls to 11,” the Principal noted.

Dr Isaac Antwi added that power from the only generator set has also been extended to the college clinic to provide an uninterrupted power supply to equipment at the facilíty.

Through IGF, he said, we are constructing a semi-detached bungalow, which is at a roofing stage to reduce accommodation challenges and has therefore appealed to individuals and groups to partner with them for the completion of the stalled project.

Dr Isaac Antwi expressed appreciation to the Alumni, Students Representative Council, government officials, Tano South MP, Charles Asiedu, traditional authorities and the Catholic Church, among other stakeholders, for their contributions to the school.
