South Dayi Assembly commissions GH₵1m teachers’ apartment at Peki-Dzake

The South Dayi District Assembly in the Volta region has officially commissioned a GH₵1 million, DPAT7-funded, four-bedroom, hall-and-chamber self-contained teachers’ apartment at Peki-Dzake E.P. Primary A/B and Kindergarten, marking a significant milestone in enhancing teachers’ welfare in the district.

Although the project was completed last year, it had not been formally inaugurated until now. The new facility is expected to substantially ease the accommodation challenges faced by teachers posted to the school, thereby contributing to improved teaching and learning outcomes.

At a brief ceremony on the school compound, Headteacher Mawutor Atsutse highlighted the importance of the facility in motivating educators.

He noted that beyond convenience, the bungalow would play a crucial role in attracting and retaining qualified teachers who can help shape the future of the pupils.

“This bungalow will not only provide our educators with a comfortable and conducive environment, but will also help attract and retain qualified professionals who will inspire our students to reach their full potential,” he said.

The District Chief Executive for the North Dayi Constituency, Courage Kokoroko, reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising teachers’ welfare, stressing that their contributions to national development are invaluable.

“It is often said that a teacher’s reward is in heaven. We, the NDC, refuse to accept this notion. We firmly believe that teachers must be rewarded in the very communities where they serve,” Kokoroko stated.

He urged beneficiaries to take full responsibility for maintaining the facility, dismissing the idea that it belongs solely to the government, and encouraging them to treat it as their own asset.

The Chief of Peki-Dzake, Torgbe Dzeha III, expressed gratitude to the Minister and the Assembly, describing the project as a timely intervention.

He also appealed for further support, calling for improvements to the town’s road network and enhanced lighting around the school to ensure safety and accessibility.

Addressing the gathering, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu assured residents that South Dayi would continue to receive its fair share of national development projects. He commended the community for actively participating in bringing the teachers’ apartment to fruition.

He further highlighted the President’s commitment to improving education nationwide, noting that rising rental costs in certain areas often deter skilled workers from serving in communities that need them most.
