Some chiefs are selling lands designated for developmental projects to individuals - Ejisu MCE

The municipal chief executive (MCE) for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Jerryne Asante, has bemoaned the practice of some chiefs selling lands designated for community development projects to private developers.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Adom news, she observed that most lands reserved for schools, hospitals, markets and other developmental projects are sold without recourse to the government.

She appealed to traditional leaders to desist from the practice in order to help drive development in their areas.

“I appeal to them, we know that they are the custodian of the land but the government also has the responsibility of ensuring development in every community in the country. So, they should comply with the layout of the community so that government lands are not sold out,” she said.

Ms. Asante said she will ensure her share of the district assembly common fund is used to develop rural communities, focused on access to water, roads and health centers.

“Ejisu is a hub of trading so there will be a 24-hour economy market in Ejisu to boost trading and reduce unemployment in my tenure,” she said.

The MCE said she has used the drip machine allocated to the municipality to clear some dilapidated roads within her two months in office.
