Media personality and entrepreneur Kpekpo Maxwell Justice, popularly known as KMJ, has credited renowned filmmaker Socrate Safo for playing a key role in securing his breakthrough at the Multimedia Group.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s The Career Trail, KMJ recounted how his transition from regional radio to one of Ghana’s leading media networks began with a simple act of support from someone who barely knew him.

After the death of his boss at Vision FM in Koforidua, Oliver Desbordes, KMJ said he was encouraged by fellow media personality Sammy Flex to relocate to Accra and pursue new opportunities.

“After my boss passed, I remember Sammy saying, ‘You’re a big guy. You’ve done so much in Koforidua; everybody knows you. Pack your things and come to Accra and start a new life.’ It was tough because I was so attached to the man, but I made the bold decision and left,” KMJ recalled.

Arriving in Accra, KMJ spent five months without a job. He eventually got an opportunity to appear on Sammy Flex’s entertainment show on Pluzz FM as a pundit. One day, Sammy was unavailable, and KMJ stepped in as host. The episode was streamed live on Facebook and attracted considerable attention.

“That Sunday changed everything. Sammy wasn’t around, so he asked me to sit in for him. I agreed. The show was streaming live, and surprisingly, everyone was talking about me,” he said.
It was during this breakthrough moment that Socrate Safo walked into the studio.

“He started asking me questions — who I was, what I was doing there, and if it was my first time. We were on a commercial break, so I told him I’d speak to him after the show,” KMJ narrated.

After learning KMJ was unemployed, Socrate Safo approached the station’s manager, recommending he be offered a job, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

“Two weeks later, I was home when Socrate called and asked me to go meet Mark Okraku Mantey, the then Programmes Manager at Hitz FM,” KMJ said.

He met Mark at the Multimedia offices, made his pitch, and was offered a pundit slot on the morning show. Once again, KMJ got a lucky break — the main host went on leave, and he stepped in.
“One thing led to another, and after some months, the host resigned, and I became the substantive host of the show,” he recounted.

After two and a half years, KMJ transitioned from radio to TV on the advice of Multimedia management. “At first, I was hesitant. But after successfully hosting a few shows, I accepted. That’s how I moved from radio to TV,” he said.

Today, KMJ is a household name in Ghanaian media, known for his engaging presence across radio and television, including political and social commentary shows.

Reflecting on his journey, he said, “How my life has transformed, I can never take credit for it. It was God’s doing. You can prepare yourself, but it takes grace. I’m thankful to those who helped me. I don’t joke with Socrate Safo because he did this for me without even knowing me. I’ll forever be grateful to him.”

He also shared the origin of his nickname, The Royal Host, which was coined by KKD during KMJ’s coverage of the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“KKD said, ‘It’s your first time doing this up close, and though I’ve never had a conversation with you, talking to you now, you are The Royal Host.’ That name stuck,” KMJ said.
