A new investigative report has uncovered how a little-known mining and stevedoring firm with only one employee, Evatex Logistics Limited, secured a controversial revenue assurance contract with the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The investigation, conducted by Evans Aziamor-Mensah, Adwoa Adobea and the reporting journalist, details a series of irregularities surrounding the award of the contract and points to the involvement of the former GACL Board Chair, Paul Adom-Otchere, and the Managing Director, Yvonne Opare.
According to the findings, the contract appears to have been backdated and handed to Evatex despite the company not being licensed to undertake the specialised services required.
The report further reveals that Devnest Systems initially made a formal presentation to the GACL Board, yet the contract was ultimately awarded to Evatex, a sister company of SML.
The investigation also uncovers that when Evatex secured the contract, it was not the company’s own staff who were deployed to execute the work.
Instead, workers from another entity were used in implementing the airport project, deepening concerns about the transparency and legitimacy of the arrangement.
