Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency

The Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency in the Upper West Region, Mohammed Issah Bataglia, has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama following the commencement of road construction works in the area.

Roads linking Tumu to Wa and Tumu to Navrongo are currently undergoing construction as captured in the government’s Big Push initiative.

The MP believes the constituency stands to benefit from unprecedented road infrastructure development under the NDC government, noting that President Mahama demonstrated strong commitment to the area in the 2026 Budget.

The Sissala East enclave has for years lacked proper road infrastructure, making life unbearable for residents—most of whom are farmers—particularly in transporting farm produce to market centres.

Nearly 100 per cent of roads in the constituency remain untarred, compounding the daily struggles of residents.

Although some EU-funded farm road projects were previously awarded in the Upper West Region, the area was allegedly denied the opportunity to benefit from the initiative.

Mr Bataglia said the NDC government understands the road challenges confronting the constituency and is committed to addressing them over the next few years.

“I have no doubt that the Sissala East Constituency is now getting the best of its share when it comes to road construction, because we were clearly neglected,” he told JoyNews’ Fatawu Bayaga on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

The legislator also revealed that he has held discussions with the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agodza, who assured him that the government will augment the Big Push initiative with an additional 10 kilometres of roads for Sissala East every year.

Mr Bataglia is convinced the development will open up the constituency and ensure improved mobility.

He further highlighted the critical Wuru road, describing it as a national security concern, and disclosed that plans are far advanced to fix it. He also mentioned the bridge linking Duu and Bawiessibelle, which he says will be constructed to enhance smooth transportation.

According to the MP, the completion of these road projects will significantly improve the ability of farmers to transport their produce in and out of the constituency.
