Students of Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region have donated one hundred thousand cedis towards the surgery of a female student shot in the eye by a colleague at the Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi.

The Regional Executive Council of the Students’ Representative Council raised the funds through the support of administrators of the second-cycle institutions.

Together with the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, a voluntary donation was opened for students to contribute.

President of the ARSRC, James Acheampong, says the suggestion for voluntary donation was accepted by the student body.

“CHASS thought through our proposal and realised it is wise that a contribution is made towards the healthcare of our colleague,” he said.

He added “when the issue was placed on board, most students were moved to donate towards the surgery. Some contributed as high hundred cedis. In some schools, students paid five cedis each.”
