SHS Placement: Parents frustrated over slow processes at Kumasi self-placement centre

The Kumasi resolution centre for school placements has been agog with widespread confusion and agitation among parents and students who have crowded the KTI auditorium to resolve challenges.

Following the release of the 2025 Senior High School (SHS) placement results, the centre has become a scene of long winding queues, heated exchanges, amidst desperate appeals for ease in resolving challenges.

With several requests to have their wards either not placed or offered programmes and statuses of their choice, parents who thronged the centre complained about the difficulties the slow placement system has created.

“My child will have to take three cars before getting to school. Instead of boarding, they gave her day. It’s not like she didn’t get a good grade,” one parent lamented.

“She needed boarding but rather got day status. She’s in Accra which wouldn’t make it possible to come from Accra to Kumasi every day, so I’m here to look for boarding status for her,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Education, 603,328 candidates wrote the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), out of which 590,309 qualified for placement.

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has since successfully placed 483,800 students, representing 82 percent of the qualified candidates.

With thousands still unresolved, the queues at KTI continue to grow, leaving parents and students anxious about securing a fair placement and a smooth start to the academic year.
