Deputy Government Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has justified President John Mahama’s decision to scrap fuel allowances for all political appointees.
She described it as a critical move to reduce government wastage and redirect funds to priority sectors.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday News, the government official stressed that Ghanaians should welcome the measure as part of broader efforts to promote fiscal responsibility.
The July 15 directive, announced earlier today by the Presidency, eliminates fuel benefits for political officeholders as part of a series of cost-cutting initiatives.
This follows earlier steps such as reducing ministerial appointments and canceling satellite TV subscriptions for government offices.
Madam Muslim noted that these actions align with public demands for accountability.
The policy also precedes the implementation of a GHS1.00 fuel levy for power generation, further underscoring the administration’s focus on reallocating resources.
Shamima Muslim insists the latest move must be met with public support and vigilance to ensure sustained accountability.
