Broadcast journalist and lawyer Serwaa Amihere has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over comments attributed to her that described Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, as a “breeding ground for homosexuals.”
The apology follows PRESEC’s strongly worded statement condemning the remarks as false, reckless and deeply offensive, and warning against the stigmatisation of students of the school.
In her apology, Ms. Amihere sought to distance herself from any intention to malign the institution or its students, acknowledging the hurt and concern her comments had generated among old students, parents and the wider public.
“I apologise to everyone who has felt slighted by the comments, especially the PRESEC community and the PRESECANS. I apologise, and I assure you that it won’t happen again,” she said.
Her statement appears aimed at calming tensions that erupted after the remarks went viral, triggering strong reactions from the school and alumni groups.
While some critics argued that the comments unfairly labelled students and risked exposing young people to ridicule and prejudice, others held a different view that it was normal, friendly banter among secondary schools without any ill intention.
In its earlier statement dated January 17, 2026, PRESEC management rejected the characterisation outright, stressing that the school is a Presbyterian mission institution founded on Christian values, discipline and academic excellence.
The school said such claims undermine its legacy and the integrity of its students, describing the remarks as an irresponsible generalisation that seeks to attach stigma to an institution known for producing national leaders across public service, science, business and civic life.
Management further warned that statements of that nature can cause emotional harm to students and erode public confidence in the school’s moral and educational foundations.
