Serene Insurance spreads Christmas cheer at Accra psychiatric hospital

Serene Insurance Company has donated food items and essential supplies to patients at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital as part of its quarterly outreach and Christmas activities, aimed at supporting mental health care and improving the welfare of vulnerable patients.

The donation forms part of the Ghanaian-owned insurance firm’s corporate social responsibility efforts, particularly within the health and social welfare sectors.

Speaking to JoyNews, the Head of Public Relations at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Peggy Asiedu, said the gesture was timely and impactful, especially for patients who have been abandoned and depend largely on external support.

“The donated items go a long way to improve the lives of our patients, particularly those who have no family support and rely heavily on assistance from kind-hearted individuals and organisations,” she said.

Ms Asiedu used the occasion to urge Ghanaians to take mental health issues seriously and seek professional help when needed.

“I encourage people to speak up and seek help when they are facing mental health challenges. Mental health must be prioritised just like physical health,” she stressed.

She also cautioned the public against excessive alcohol consumption during the festive season, warning that it could worsen mental health conditions and put lives at risk.

Serene Insurance Company offers a range of insurance and financial protection services to individuals and businesses in Ghana. The company is widely recognised for its commitment to corporate social responsibility, with a strong focus on health, community support and social welfare initiatives.

Hospital authorities expressed appreciation to the company for the donation, noting that such support complements ongoing efforts to provide quality care to patients, particularly during the Christmas season when resources are often stretched.
