Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, a prominent figure within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has firmly rejected media reports alleging he stated former President Nana Akufo-Addo seeks to apologize to Ghanaians following the party’s 2024 election defeat.
In a press release issued Saturday, Asamoah-Boateng dismissed a Joy News report as “entirely false and misleading,” clarifying he made no such remarks during recent Kumasi radio interviews.
The senior party member acknowledged discussing post-election reflections across four radio stations, including Multimedia Group’s Nhyira FM. He emphasized advocating for collective responsibility among NPP leadership and conciliatory engagement with grassroots supporters. According to his statement, former President Akufo-Addo had privately urged ministers and party leaders to accept shared accountability for the electoral outcome.
Asamoah-Boateng confirmed raising logistical concerns about the timing of the ongoing NPP delegates’ conference, suggesting scheduling should accommodate senior statesmen’s participation. He demanded an immediate retraction from Joy News and affiliated outlets, asserting the report distorted his actual position on internal party reconciliation efforts.
