SDG Hangout: A collaborative effort between Tarragon Edge, AISWAM

The maiden edition of the SDG Hangout, a collaborative effort between Tarragon Edge Limited and the Africa Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management (AISWAM), gathered dreamers, doers, and changemakers under one roof to explore a profound truth — Water is Life.

Held under the theme “Advancing SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation,” the event went beyond a typical dialogue; it was an immersive experience of insight, inspiration, and action.

From the soothing melodies of Ken Carbonou to the buzz of introductions and the writing of personal Pledges for Impact, the atmosphere was alive with purpose and anticipation.

Dr Genevieve Pearl Duncan set the tone for the evening with an opening message that linked the dialogue to a broader vision of “building communities and organisations that don’t just talk sustainability but live it.”

Her heartfelt plea to “lead for impact, not applause” resonated strongly throughout the room.

The highlight of the evening was a thought-provoking dialogue featuring distinguished voices across sectors.

Barry Kofi King (WaterAid Ghana), Victoria Naa Shika Quaye (CEO, Naaviq Limited), Dr Akorfa Ahiafo (Sustainability Advocate and CEO, Dekosey), and the South African High Commissioner, H.E. Thando Dalamba.

Their discussions illuminated how leadership, innovation, and policy can drive water and sanitation solutions that create lasting legacies.

In his powerful remarks, H.E Dalamba emphasised Africa’s shared destiny, stating, “Sustainable Development Goals should remind us that our destinies are intertwined. Clean water in Ghana, green energy in South Africa, or quality education anywhere on the continent are not isolated ambitions but a collective priority for Africa’s sustainable future.”

The event was graced by a host of dignitaries, including Madam Dora Yeboah (Coordinating Executive, CAS Cluster – Jospong Group), Mr Klaus Von Backustein (Managing Director, Ignite Media Group – Jospong Group), Dr Victor Abbey, traditional leaders such as Naa Afokor Odjeagbo II, Naa Momo Meniefeebo II, Naa Fofo Anum II, Naa Korklu Mobonalor III, Ɔte Atuoso Nana Osei Bonsu III, and Mr Franklin Sowa, Director of Marketing at Graphic Communications Group, among others.

Corporate partner Jospong Group and other distinguished guests enriched the evening with compelling impact stories that showed sustainability is not a mere buzzword but a shared responsibility.

A particularly engaging moment was the “Jar of Impact” activity, where participants dropped their pledges into a symbolic jar, each representing a personal commitment to advancing a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable world.

The evening reached its pinnacle with the launch of the “Lead for Legacy” Campaign, a movement that calls on leaders, both young and seasoned, to rise above rhetoric and build lasting change.

In Dr Genevieve’s words, “Legacy is not what we leave behind, but what we build while we are here. This is our moment to lead, and to lead for legacy.”

The session ended with laughter, networking, and photo moments at the SDG Brand Wall, capturing the spirit of collaboration and hope that defined the day. Each smile, handshake, and pledge told a story of shared responsibility, proof that small conversations can indeed spark big impact.

As the curtains closed on this first edition, one thing was certain: the SDG Hangout is not just another event; it is a rhythm, a community, and a growing movement. With its promise to return monthly, it will continue to keep the flame of sustainable leadership burning brightly.

The Lead for Legacy Campaign now extends beyond the venue, into offices, campuses, communities, and hearts, inspiring a new generation of leaders to act boldly, think sustainably, and leave a lasting mark on society.
