School placement is absolutely free - GES warns parents against payment demands

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that parents and guardians are being asked to pay money for the placement of their wards into senior high schools.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, the Service said the placement exercise is “absolutely free of charge” and warned parents and students not to give money to anyone in exchange for school placement.

“At no point should any parent, guardian, or student pay money to any individual or group of persons for placement into any Senior High School or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution,” the statement stressed.

The GES explained that “it has put in place official and transparent processes to handle placements.

Parents and guardians have been advised to use only the computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal, the Resolution Centres, and official GES communication channels for all placement-related matters.”

The Service further urged the public to report anyone demanding money for placements. “We encourage anyone who is approached with demands for money in exchange for placement to report immediately to the Ghana Education Service or the nearest police station for swift action,” the statement said.

According to the GES, placement into senior high schools is strictly merit-based and not for sale.

“The GES remains committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all qualified candidates,” it added.
