“We must open our eyes and ears to listen to concerns and draw the attention of actors in the health service so that we can improve healthcare and health service delivery in the region.

“If we identify opportunities anywhere, we should not hesitate to explore them so we can collectively improve the sector,” he said.

Mr Be-Awuribe explained that provisions in the Health Sector Act make it necessary for traditional authorities to be represented on the committee.

“Some of the challenges in the health sector can best be addressed if traditional authorities take a lead role in resolving them,” he said.

He added that when traditional authorities and political leaders work together on initiatives such as sanitation campaigns, residents are more likely to support and participate in such efforts.

“When residents see traditional authorities and politicians working together to champion the same cause, they will listen and follow suit,” the minister noted.

Chairman of the committee, Tolodompewura Abdallah Ahmed, expressed confidence in the capacity of members to deliver on their mandate.

“We will not disappoint the President but will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in us,” he assured.

A senior member of the Ghana Health Service, Alex Amankwa-Poku, administered the Oaths of Allegiance and Secrecy to the committee members.

The Regional Health Committee is the second of its kind since the creation of the Savannah Region in 2019.
