Rosebank University College

Dr. Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, has officially unveiled Rosebank University College (RIUC), a new private tertiary institution in Ghana.

The launch, held in Accra at the premises of the institution at Airport Commercial Centre, Opeibea House, was attended by various government officials, including representatives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing access to higher education through public-private partnerships.

During the ceremony, Dr. Apaak emphasized the essential contribution of private universities in complementing the educational landscape traditionally dominated by public institutions.

“Public universities alone could not shoulder the burden of providing avenues for higher education for the country’s teeming youth,” he remarked, reinforcing the need for diversified educational options.

The introduction of Rosebank University College comes at a crucial time, as Ghana faces mounting pressure on its educational infrastructure due to a burgeoning youth population.

A recent report from the Ministry of Education projected that the country must significantly enhance its tertiary enrolment capabilities to accommodate a demographic that is expected to comprise over 60% of the population by 2030.

With Rosebank’s established reputation in over three other African countries, its launch is seen as a strategic initiative to help fill the educational void.

Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Director-General of GTEC, underscored the importance of ongoing accreditation for the new institution.

Speaking on his behalf, he stated, “It is a continuous, evolving process that involves constant monitoring, review, and improvement.” He assured attendees that GTEC would actively oversee Rosebank University College to ensure it adheres to the highest standards of quality assurance in higher education.

Dr. Linda Meyer, President of Rosebank University College, shared her vision for the institution, highlighting its Pan-Africanist ethos. She noted that the university aims to empower Africa to address its own challenges and reduce reliance on foreign educational systems.

“Our goal is to provide education to the continent’s population without them having to travel abroad,” she said, emphasizing that this initiative could save families significant foreign exchange while fostering academic excellence within the region.

The launch of Rosebank University College is a promising development for Ghana’s educational landscape, as it seeks to provide affordable, high-quality, and transformative education.

With the support of government initiatives and the private sector, the institution is poised to play a critical role in shaping the future of education and employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

As the nation moves forward, the collaborative efforts between the government and private institutions like Rosebank will be crucial in ensuring that Ghana’s young population is equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive global economy.
