Rising voices, unshakable faith: Reflections on the God summit

This past week, I had the privilege of attending one of the most inspiring gatherings I have witnessed in recent years, The God Summit, thoughtfully envisioned and led by Dr Mensa Otabil. What unfolded over those days was more than a conference. It was a reminder that God is raising a new generation in Ghana who are bold, prepared, and deeply rooted in Scripture to stand for the truth of the gospel.

What struck me most was not just the excellence of the event. It was who Dr Otabil intentionally placed at the forefront:

Young people.

Young pastors.

Young theologians.

Young believers with strong convictions, a clear understanding, and an unwavering commitment to the Christian faith.

These were not simply observers or volunteers. They were leaders teaching, defending, explaining, and applying the Scriptures with grace and intellectual strength. It was a demonstration of the potential of God’s Word in our nation and a powerful picture of what the future of the gospel in Ghana can look like.

A Gathering of Young Defenders of the Faith

The summit assembled a remarkable group of young men and women, many of whom are already actively shaping conversations around theology and apologetics. Their passion was evident. Their preparation was clear. Their love for Christ and His church was unmistakable.

What made this even more beautiful was that these young leaders came from across denominations. They were not all from ICGC. Dr Otabil intentionally drew together pastors and thinkers from various churches to serve, teach, and guide participants. It was a kingdom-minded approach and a reminder that defending the Christian faith is a shared responsibility across the body of Christ.

The panel discussions, group interactions, and breakout sessions all reflected this unity and strength. And at the heart of it was young people carrying the weight of responsibility with maturity and excellence.

Breakout Sessions That Met Real Questions

One of the highlights of the summit was the breakout sessions with spaces filled with honest questions, sincere doubts, theological challenges, and real-life concerns. These sessions were led by young pastors who handled some of the most difficult and essential questions Christians wrestle with today, including:

  • Is the Scripture reliable?
  • Why do we have different Bible translations?
  • Is Jesus the only way?
  • How should Christians present Jesus in secular environment?
  • How should Christians understand suffering?

Watching these young ministers respond to questions not with arrogance, not with oversimplified answers, but with Scripture, humility, clarity, and depth was deeply moving. It reminded me that God is raising a generation that is not afraid of tough questions, because they are rooted in the truth of God’s Word.

The Power of an Open Forum: A Night of Q&A

On the final night, Dr Otabil himself led an open Q&A session with the conference participants. That moment captured the spirit of the entire summit.

He welcomed difficult questions.

He encouraged curiosity.

He demonstrated what it means to be a studious, thoughtful, grounded teacher of the Word.

It was clear that he trusted the Holy Spirit to give wisdom and clarity in the moment. And as he answered, it became evident that apologetics, theology, and biblical literacy are not abstract academic pursuits but essential tools for strengthening the church.

A Generational Thinker With a Kingdom Vision

What Dr Otabil has done through the God Summit is nothing short of visionary. It takes a generational thinker to invest in young leaders. It takes humility to hand them a platform. It takes courage to trust them with weighty theological responsibilities in front of hundreds.

Through this summit, he did more than host an event.

He modelled what it means to disciple.

He demonstrated what it means to build the future of the church.

He activated a generation that will carry the gospel into new spaces with confidence and conviction.

For this, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to Dr Mensa Otabil.

May the Lord bless him.

May the Lord strengthen him.

May God continue to use him as a vessel for truth, wisdom, and transformation in this nation and beyond.

A Vision Worth Spreading

What we experienced at The God Summit is what many of us have only seen in other parts of the world where young Christians are encouraged to ask deep questions, equipped to defend their faith, and empowered to serve the body of Christ boldly.

My prayer is that this will not remain a once-a-year experience. Ghana and the church at large needs more of this. We need more spaces where the gospel is explored deeply, taught faithfully, and defended courageously.

If this summit is a sign of what God is doing, then the future of the church in Ghana is bright. God is raising voices of young, passionate, theologically sound to declare and defend the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And for that, we give God the glory.
